Engagement Session

Our first shooting session has arrived! Let’s prepare for that.

The engagement session is the best way for you to have the most amazing pictures. In this session, you can be yourselves and have all the time for details with no rush to get the best shots.

When you are planning for the engagement session, here are a few important elements to consider.

Time:

A typical session lasts about 3 hours, but no rush! We want to get this very nicely done, so do not worry about time so much, 3 hours are usually the limit for most people, where we can capture the best images, and travel between different locations.

The best time for photos is almost always before sunset where the light is good and has a warm tone. We like to finish by sunset, unless you’d like your session to include nighttime shots. Most sessions start around three hours before sunset, and that is usually enough time to shoot in two different locations, including travel time.

Location:

You can select multiple settings for your shots, but we recommend two primary locations.  We can always shoot around them so you can have a wide variety of images.

When choosing your locations, try to think about places you like to go, places you feel good being, or somewhere that has a style that matches your own.

We can hold your session at the beach, at a park, on a hiking trail, or in a more urban environment, with a modern, grungy look. The location, however, does not always have to be in public. We encourage you to think outside the box and make your photographs personal.

Let L E A F take your engagement photos, too. Engagement sessions are a fantastic opportunity for our photographers to get to know you, and for us to become friends. The more familiar we are with you, the better we’ll be able to capture compelling and personal engagement photos. We always encourage non-traditional poses and compositions, and we keep the focus on you, not necessarily the venue. When you hire us to shoot your engagement photos, we’ll work to bring out your own creativity and originality, and in the end we’ll deliver photos that are true to you.

However, be sure to take into consideration the travel time between locations, you want to have a main location for the sunset shots and a secondary location where we can start.

Props and Outfit:

As a general rule, those who are overdressed always look better in photos. The specific attire, though, must be of your own style and should absolutely be something that you are comfortable in and proud of wearing. Our best advice is that you wear something timeless. Typically two to three outfits that are coordinated between the two of  you would work perfectly. Feel free to bring options, though, and try to match different outfits with different locations.

Also. Neutral colors always look good.

We encourage you to bring props that fit your personality. Props are a great way to express your style and individuality, and guarantee that your photos are anything but ordinary.

When:

With very few exceptions we recommend that you book your engagement session during the week, when venues are typically less crowded. During these times, it is easier to find parking and move around. Plus, we are more available on weekdays as most weddings are on the weekends.

Forecast:

If you’d prefer to have your photos taken on a sunny day, let’s keep our eye on the forecast. At L E A F, we are highly flexible and strive to accommodate our clients as best we can. If the forecast doesn’t look good, kindly allow us two days notice so we can reschedule the shooting.
